“The Innovation Ranking, also known as the Skyscraper Rating, is like laying the foundation for building the cities of the future…” — Artem Vershinsky, Head of Programme at World Innovation Ranking 2025
How it works
Innovation rating is a process of evaluating and comparing the outcomes of innovation efforts among countries, regions, cities, companies, or industries. This process typically involves using a set of indicators that measure inputs like:
Resources;
Infrastructure & Government policies;
Investment in Research & Development;
Education and Human Capital;
Business Environment;
and outputs such as:
Patent Activities;
High-tech products;
Startups and New Ventures;
Scientific Research & Publications.
City innovation and investment activities are two separate aspects of the assessment, along with the number of skyscrapers, which is a symbol of future potential. Special attention is given to the study of public opinion via votes and surveys, which are supported by the non-profit organization Arch Town Labs.
